Advice Required for Moving out of Singapore

Post by exge » Thu, 18 May 2006 11:02 am

Hi,

I came to Singapore, November last year and rented an apartment with 2 years lease. When we signed the contract, it had a diplomatic clause, which allowes me to close the contract after one year giving 2 months notice.

However, i will have to move out of Singapore in a month or so, which would mean i would have stayed in the apartment for 6.5 months. The question is can i recover part of 2 months security deposit that i had paid at the time of signing the contract. Also there has been a suggestion that i might have to 5.5 months of rent. Is that correct. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Manish

Legally, you owe 5.5 months rent. In practice, you can do a runner, but that would be illegal and you'll be out of your security deposit (which is there precisely to stop you from doing this...)

The best solution for everybody is thus that you find somebody to take over your lease.
