WNDC May 17th, Bar Stop

Postby Deadpoet » Mon, 15 May 2006 5:47 pm

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late post. It was a long weekend, and it's a long story.

This week's WNDC will be at a new place, discovered by a few fellow WNDCers, Bar Stop at 6 Devonshire Rd.

It's at the corner of Devonshire and Killiney, just a stone throw down Killiney from the Sommerset MRT.

As always, see you there, Wed night 8pm.

Another new joint and I won't be able to join, life is soooo unfair! :(
It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

There is no worms in tequila, but in mezcal !
It is a bit different, and not because of the worm

Well noted Jolmar and if I might add...Tequila is a variety of Mezcal and it takes it name from Tequila Jalisco place from which it comes from.

The Tequila is now a fully industrialized process and it's usually not 100% agave (plant from which mezcal and tequila come from) while mezcal is always 100% and done in a more traditional way.

The variety of Agave is also different Tequilana Weber blue variety for Tequila and Angustifolia Haw for Mezcal and is in this last variety that the well known worm.

To be complete :

the worm is just a promotional tool, invented by Jacobo Lozano Paez.
In 1940, he was testing a agave "juice" with a worm inside, and they founded that the taste was really different.
So be it and the legend is born.
By the way and by law, tequila is not authorized to have a worm inside.

To classify the mezcal :
- Blanco : white, clear, no more than 2 months old
- reposado : more than 2 months, less than 1 year
- Añejo : more than 1 year, in wooden barrel.

Thank you all for a great night and sorry to have inflicted my little crisis on some of you. Dancing was mentioned by some of the ladies this friday which i'm still up for but might have to postpone as the beer has worn off and the responsible thing would be to flat hunt. If anyone knows of a short-term/affordable flatshare i'd be grateful to hear form you by email or on 8146899

Warm regards,

Julia
