PSLE - 6 years of school
N Levels - 10 or 11 years of school
O levels - 10 or 11 years of school (must have to take A levels)
Polytechnic Diploma - alternative to A levels but not qualified for Uni.
A levels - 12 years of school Must have to go to university
Batchlors degree
Hope this helps

'A' level is where yu choose certain subjects /a stream ...but wats the difference between N levels and O levels if both are 10 yrs of school?...also a friend of mine doin a mass com poly dip and says she'l be joinin uni after her 3rd yr...is tht so as its contradictory to what yu said tht poly dips are alternative to A levels but dont qualify for uni ?...xie xie..god bless...

N levels are usually 4 years although a 5th year is also available so at the end of that time they can attempt to do the O level exams (N level subjects are not as advanced as O levels subjects (you are streamed based on your results of your PSLE exams. It is possible to be an O level student and get downgraded to an N level student (happens regularly) and occationally the reverse is true but you can imagine that that is much much harder to do because it take a lot of outside work to catch up.squatlover wrote:thanks for the help...so i can safely say tht 4 GCE 'O' level is 10 yrs of school . A lot of Polytech students are doing exactly what you are talking about and this is something that is relatively for Singapore Uni's. It's been done with great regularity for 10 years now at least where they get a poly diploma (it is a very good diploma I might add - in a worldwide view) which is generally recognized by a lot of British, Canadian, Australian and some US universities. They will get their Diplomas then start university in the 3rd year (2 year degree). Matter of fact, Engineers who got their degrees this way are much better engineers that pure local engineering uni grads as far as I'm concerned and I've worked with both for 20 years. I'm not sure how often it is being done by Singapore Universities yet but rarely I would imagine....It's been mostly the foreign Uni's that do this. What University is your friend going to join - local or the University of Oklahoma distance learning degree offered through MDIS or other foreign uni?

thanks a lot...but since i havent studied in sg and am not'O' level certified,so does it mean i dont qualify to do this course which requires an 'O' level?or if not which of my qualifcations is equivalent to the O level..ive done 10 yrs of school and am certified with the secondary school certificate/SSC ...then i did 2 more yrs of school and got certified with the higher secondary school certificate/HSC in the science stream...this is where we get to choose between sci/arts/commerce streams or do a poly dip as an alternative the same way as in sg...and now im doing my bach degree/BSc...but want desperately to enter csbs @ raffles for this 2 yr poly dip in sport and exercise science ...so are my qualifications equivalent to the O level or not?...all these exams ive done in mumbai, india.thanks for al the help ...god bless...

squatlover,
That is out of my scope of knowledge now. I think the only way to find an answer to that one would be to contact the Singapore MOE (Ministry of Education).
A good place to start doing your in depth research would be the Ministry of Education.
Good luck in your educational quest.
