When we were looking for our condo we looked at around 10 properties and about 7 of them had "maids rooms". We were told that all new developments have to have abomb shelter. The ventilation hole are not so obvious. Singaporeans seem to go overboard on some things such as terrorism and things like mad cow disease(boy I miss that american beef). But if it keeps us all a little safer than I do not mind. Our bomb shelter we use as our computer room/office/entertainment room. If the kids get a little loud we just shut the door. They are very sound resistant

Yeah, that would have to be my biggest 'culture shock' the cost of red meat and it's limited range. Getting really sick of eating eye round and minced topside.
