I would advise you have a go yourself first.
Try what the boys have suggested - pouring a drain cleaner down, but be careful these things are very strong chemicals so don't get any on your clothes. Can buy them in a supermarket or a DIY shop.
If that fails, get a plunger - remember you need to create a vacuum so block the overflow with the other hand while plunging.
If that doesn't work see if you can dismantle the u bend pipe under the sink - don't forget to put a bucket there first to catch the water that is in it. That is probably where the block is.
If all of that fails then you will need to call someone in - you will probably pay $70 call out & then whatever on top if they have to replace any parts. You can get a handyman card from the DIY shops.
Good luck

Ensure that you do NOT have PVC piping before you do that. If it's boiling water your trap or o-ring seals can give way and you'll have a mess on your hands as you will have to replace the PVC piping wherever it has warped.

You can also buy a super plunger from Giant, NTUC and some of the Hardware Shop.
This little baby gives you a suction end that you get a good grip with a pump handle to pressureise the gunk through your pipe (just watch out fora ny debris coming back through the overflow point if your doing it to a wash hand basin or bath.

We had lots of this problem in all the bathrooms at our current house. Every drain was slow -- we tried everythig, boiling water, every manner of plunger, chemicals (I think Mr. Bailey even procured some black market napalm) nothing worked. Turned out the pipes were completely choked with roots. Roots! Made me wonder, if the roots could get in, what else could...

That's excellent recommendation Bafana.
I'm sure it will come in handy in the future as well. Long lasting...
