Hello- Does anyone know how an American can set up an account to trade stocks listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange? I have called up a few places and they wont let me open an account because I am an American. I want to invest in Singapore for the long term because of new banking policies in your country.

Any info is appreciated. I will be coming to Singapore in three weeks to look at a few investment opportunities... so maybe I could open an account when I am there?

First you will need a bank account here in Singapore, you may want to try HSBC, it will help if you are with this bank in your own Country, Documentation must be all in order, with proof of residential address in your home Country.

If you can manage to get your account open and funds set in, your well on your way, but they are strict on documentation, due to the international laws on money laundering and other illegal acts.

One of the broker agents may sponsor you, providing you get the bank account open and funds set in.
