NORTH BORDER (ROCHESTER PARK) SUCKS

Post by Wham » Sat, 22 Apr 2006 8:28 pm

Went to North Border in Rochester Park last night. While i will admit that we had a good waiter that made the evening tolerable, the food was just plain bad. I had the ceviche as an appetizer and the portion was small and the whole presentation (in a desert glass) was just off. It also had a small variety of fish parts such as some squid, shrimp and fish. Would have been much better if they had just used one type of tender white meat fish and done it right. I then had the surf and turf (tenderloin and shrimp) - had ordered the steak medium rare - it came out well done and the shrimp was borderline inedible due to some wierd sauce they put on it. I am still wretching at the thought of it. ...and if you are thinking "why didn't you send the steak back?" - someone at the table had ALREADY sent their's back and i was so hungry that i figured i would just deal with it.

Alas, IMHO someone figured that a cool atmosphere and a great location could mask otherwise horrible food. I would not even go back if it was free. The thought of the food still makes me sick to my stomach.

Isn't the parking there a huge problem?

Is this at 1 Rochester Park? My friends gave pretty good reviews about the place! Hmm... or perhaps they just went there for the drinks... :?

Their tables n chairs outside are also like those plastic ones at Hawker centres. I've only checked the menu which appeared to be just ordinary. But that and the cheap setting were enough to put me off. Now that Wham comfirmed of the quality of their food, it doens't seem to worth giving it a try. Given such a lovely set-up n the nice bar next door, it is really pity. :(

Madwolf - 1 Rochester Park is a bar - 2 Rochester Park is a Rest called North Border Bar & Grill. The setting is very nice, but unfortunately - at least during my visit - the food was very disappointing. There was also some lady who appeared to be the manager hovering around and doing nothing but OHHH SOOOO PROUD of the crowded place. My money says that pride won't last long...
