Ah, welcome to the world of DRM. I'm glad I got an iRiver. ;)

That being said, there is software out there that can help you. I'd try a google search. :)

Couldn't get it correctly.

IPod, is built with only an internal harddrive not an flashdisk....
So if you were mentioning 'mu HDD doesn't respond anymore :( ' means that your IPod unit doesn't respond at all !!? :(

I am also not too sure what you mean - it could be that you need to reset your ipod, which depends on the model but basically holding down a combinations of buttons. Then I would recommend downloading the ipod software updater from the apple website

http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

also look at http://www.ilounge.com/ for troubleshooting questions etc that might solve your problem

good luck

then try the ephpod s/w to get the music off the ipod

No, no sorry you misunderstood me! :?

let's simplify it: MY PC home crashed. so all my songs are gone from my PC hard disk. Now I fixed the PC and re-installed itunes.
My intention is to download the songs I have on my ipod into my PC so that I can amend playlists and so.
But I cannot transfer songs out of the ipod!
I get a message saying that it is linked to another itunes software and cannot copy/move the mp3s...

Strange that ephod didn't work - it should open up a media application similar to itunes, with directories on the left hand side & then you just drag & drop like you would in itunes, but it can get songs from your ipod.

ok another option (but it ain't great) get a headphone jack with a headphone jack on the other end, plug it from your ipod to the mic at the back of your pc. Play the tune on your ipod & record it on your pc. Could take you days though & if you want seperate files you will have to startt & stop it.

Have another go with ephod :)

I really do hate the Apple Care Centre.

They said it would take 3 days....................................it took 2 1/2 weeks
They said they would call................................ ...........they didn't
I called them.................................................. ..........it takes on average 20 minutes to get through
They said they would give me an estimate..................they didn't

My computer is back and I too need to back the library from my iPod back onto the hard drive. I'll tell you how it goes, they gave me a few 3rd party websites, but as we all know they are inept. They will transfer the info for you, but it is very costly.

Arghhh!

hope it all works out for you MHB.

I have only been to the apple service centre once - because my ipod video had a habit of freezing during video playback.

The chap was quite helpful & friendly. He even asked me if I work in IT - which was a bit brown nosey, but it did the trick of making me feel nice about talking to him. Problem wasn't solved & I had to call the delivery hotline & they sent a courier with a replacement. Nice & quick - good service I thought

Then I got down to doing some of my own research & the problem was really easy to solve I just needed to update the software to 1.1.1 - although my experience with the service centre was quite pleasant he could have solved the problem (which is well known by apple) straight away & not wiped all my tunes off the ipod to reformat the HD. so looking back he was a bit of a muppet really (but so I was for not doing more research on the matter first)

BG,

I'll grant you that, they are a pleasant bunch. They do throw around some mis-information though, it's happened to me twice with tragic consequences so I only go as a last resort. They also ask crazy questions like: 'are you prepared to lose all of your data?' Like some kind of funeral director or surgeon. As if I had a choice?!? The damn hard drive is gone!

How awesome is that video iPod? I love mine... Love it, love it.
