Actually sotong is Malay for Squid. But Squid are rather stupid animals in so much as these can be caught with a lure that doesn't have barbs just like monkeys with their hand in a jar of peanuts too blur (stupid - or dazed) to let go. The Blur is american slang picked up from US tv as it has been used there for a decade or two. Hence now we have "Blur like Sotong!" or "A Blond(e) Moment" Sama-sama.
