i tried psyllium husk - didn't work for me. If you don't drink adequate amount of water, it might worsen the constipation.

i wld suggest senokot (you can find that in any pharmacy). works like magic. please get off it once your bowel movement reverts to normal.

a galfriend of mine swears by blackforest tea but i don't know where to buy it in singapore.

I was contantly plagued by constipation when I was young  . One time it got so bad that I was immobile and had to be physically carried to the car and rushed to the medical clinic. Constipation can have grave consequence. If the waste is not released on time, the overloaded intestine can explode resultiing in death. If you are severely affected, you have to do something about it or seek medical help.

My body has changed over time and with older age, I am more regular now. Looking back, I used to eat a very unhealthy diet. I hated (still do) vegetables and my diet was mainly meat, seafood and starch.

You may want to add more fiber to your diet. Try eating a serving of cereal daily. I know most Asians (myself included) do not like those Kellogs type dry cereal. However, I found the Quaker brand oatmeal squares, cheerios and Kellogs frosted mini wheats to be acceptable in taste. Do not know if you are Asian but just want to throw out this little piece of info. To make it taste better, jazz up the cereal with bananas, raisins or whatever you fancy. These brands are readily available in SG.

You may want to get those nutritional products that are high in fiber like metamucil. Nowadays, I drink a wheat grass supplement (high in chlorophll content). It not only provides my body with lots of nutrition but is high in fiber. The barley grass type also serves the same function.

I am only providing information base on personal experience. Please remember that I am by no means a trained person qualified to give medical advice .

hey as mentioned, you can try drinking prune juice every night before u sleep or in the morning. Drink it on an empty stoamch. I have been drinking it for the past 2 years. But would like to ask does anyone know is there any side effect for drinking prune juice? And wat is the appropriate amount for each consumption?

Hi Trish

Have not heard of any side effects from over-consumption of prune juice. But it's always advisable to consume anything in moderate amounts. Too much fibre may cause problems.

Hi Ceres

My remedy for constipation is eating brown beans. You can get these brown beans from supermarkets or chinese medicine shops. They look like local red beans but are light brownish in colour. Cook them with black sugar or rock sugar and eat it like a dessert. Hope it helps :)

constipation

Post by big-eyes-maymay » Tue, 25 Apr 2006 1:40 pm

well hi.

I face this problem as well.

Don't try slimming tea. It'll probably damage your system.

My friend introduced me to it too. She takes it for slimming of course, but for me it's to make me go.
After only drinking 2 packets, I threw the whole box away. I really don't want my liver and digestive system to go haywire. I mean, using some pills or chemical to make you go is actually making your system weaker, not stronger. You'll probably need to rely on it in future, it's not good.
Besides it's so painful, your stomach will actually churn and churn, I have lied on the bed wishing it would go away and wondering when it'll stop.

Try bananas and papayas. It can really help.
