Paris Marathon - 9th April

Postby jolmar » Sun, 02 Apr 2006 11:11 pm

Hi all

As some of you know it already, I will run the Paris marathon next week.
It is not a matter of performance, it is just a matter of generosity.
I run this race to help a french association that fight against leukaemia.

This challenge has many aims :
1. we want to provide information about leukaemia
2. we want to promote blood donations and specially platelet (blood cells that help to coagulate.
3. of course we raise also some money donations to finance some research projects.
4. and for those who suffer from leukaemia, we want to show them that we are supporting them.

For those who can understand french, there is a website you can visit : http://philippides2006.free.fr

So if you are interested in helping us to reach our aims, drop me a PM, update this topic, or contact me directly !

The easiest way to help us is of course by giving money, but we are more interested in cells donations (painless, you can do it many times a year and it goes directly to the sick persons). the money challeng is the following :
actually we are more than 50 to run the marathon against leukeamia.
You can bet on us, precisely on those who will finish it :

Percentage of runners than finish the marathon / money you give:
00% / 40 S$
20% / 50 S$
40% / 60 S$
60% / 70 S$
80% / 80 S$
100% / 90S$

Thanks for your time and I hope to receive a lot of support from you, i will need them to cross the finish line :D

I will surely donate some cells Jolmar, and as well 40S$, for sure you will not reach the finish, but will end up in the first "bar' taking a cafe with a small Calvados.... :D

I will PM you...

Wish you all the best there in Paris, bon courage...

Hi Jolmar,

To give you a personal challenge, I will donate 20 SGD for every hour under 10 hours that you finish the marathon. So complete it in 5 hours and you get 100 SGD, 6 hours 80 SGD etc. Of course if you take longer than 10 hours (so no stopping in too many bars) then you will owe me money

I am also willing to donate my platelets, but are you sure they trust the blood of an Englishman? In Singapore for example I was unable to donate blood here because I've lived in the UK and therefore have mad cow disease :x

And good luck with the run. I ran it in 2003 and really enjoyed the course, sights, atmosphere, crowd support etc. I will be supporting you from afar, no doubt in a bar!!

Bon courage mon ami!

I accept with pleasure the personal challenge.
Anyway you're right for the blood, it's the same for the platelets.
If you have spent more than 1 year in england, it's forbidden to donate !

I will let you know my time when I finish it (around 9pm Singapore time)

You gain lots of respect from me now.
Maybe I will run tonight again here to show my support  Remember, when you reach the limit point, just think you will anyway not die, so run run run... you will overcome it. This is my way, hehe~~
Good luck!

Hi all,

Finally I am back to Singapore, after 1 week of recover (the magical effect of the french wine !)
I am glad to announce that all the 95 runners registered to support the association have finished the marathon.
For my part, I was forced to stop to run after the 18th kilometer because of an injury to my right heel, but i kept on walking from 18th to 42th kilometer. So my time is quite bad : 5H50.
I would like to thank all of you four your support.
I will do it again next year !

Hey Jolmar,

was waiting for a sign of life from you! :D

Good to hear everyone made it and bon courage from yourself to finish it, even when injured.... :o =D>

I would like to hear the whole story, while having a nice cold beer in a nice place one of these nights, how about that?

See you soon,

Eric
