Hi!
The pay for cabin crew generally consists of the following components:
– Basic (which is very low)
– Hourly (in-flight allowance, between chocks-off and chocks-on)
– Per Diem allowance (from the time you report for duty to the time you return to base - this depends on the airline as well)
– Turn-around Pay (depends on airlines)
– Layover/ Meal Allowance (for night-stops and will depend on the destination you are flying to and the standard of living in that country. This will also depend on the average meal cost in the hotel that you will be putting up at.)
– Transport & Uniform allowance
There may be other components, which depends on the airline you are working for.
For UA, the regional areas consists of Hong Kong and Japan. Because you night-stop at those countries, you will receive additional allowance. International airlines' pay scales are different from LCC. For UA, you can expect about $34k pa for the first year.
Like Paige mentioned earlier, UA is different from budget airlines. They are very much like SQ, although you don't fly international routes. This is because they have international crew located at a few bases, i.e. Japan, Thailand, so there will be a change of crew during transit. This is how it works with airlines with various cabin crew bases.
May I also add that most people who takes on a cabin crew job loves to meet people, enjoys serving them, learn of different cultures and travel at the same time. Good pay and flights to exotic locations are great bonuses. But the job is tough and sometimes stressful. It's not as easy as it looks.
All the best to the aspiring cabin crew out there. Don't give up on your dreams, if that's what you really want to do. Many failed their first interview and often have to try several times before getting through. This is because of the stiff competition. Imagine thousands of people applying, but vacancies are limited.
