If you really wanna join JAL, it's really good if you could learn Japanese or you'll have trouble with Japanese classes during training. But I think Japanese is a good language to learn for any airlines.

Chai Ching,
That very much depends on what you want out of the job and personal opinions. Japan airlines has a good record for customer service as do the majority of Asian airlines but whether one is better than another is a matter of personal opinion and preference. Should you wish to become acquainted with Japanese customs, manners, etiquette then go for it. On the other hand you need some special tolerance as when training Japanese never question their instructor as to why you should do something. JAL have recruited some English persons in this country and the venture has worked successfully despite the enormous difference in culture. You will find basic spoken Japanese easy, do learn the katakana and hiragana they are simple scripts which you can learn in an afternoon. Great shame so many foreigners who live in Japan for years never bother.

Here are a few things that may help albeit at a later date;

Plavt is again da man!!!

Nice one, mate. It is important to point out that in a Japanese company unquestioning obedience is a total must. So, any princesses out there need not apply.

You are refering to the landcrew for JAL right, like those who help you to board or check-in? I had only been on several Japan's flights, all air-hostesses that I saw were Japanese, oh and so deeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious lookings ............. ooops, I am refering to the food, of course.

I would imagine one has to have exceptional dedication, endurance and tenacity to be a JAL air-hostess. They (Japanese) have such high standards, not to mention have to be well-groomed, well-mannered and well-disciplined.

Earthfriendly,
The cabin crew on the London - Japan flights is a mixture of both westerners and Japanese. The English amongst them stay on this route permanently for practical reasons. This has been the situation for a considerable number of years; I believe the venture started around 1990.
