I saw singtel were offering a good deal on broadband in the paper yesterday, once again they have cut the price.
Buying a computer is a big can of worms
Really depends what you are want it to do. There are many shops in Sim Lim which will build one for you, as a general rule of thumb go up a few floors before you start shopping - I find the shops nearer the ground a bit more ruthless

Give me your budget and what you'll be using it for (gaming? office? internet?) and I'll list you specs.rashmi wrote: we are planning to go around sim lim sq this weekend to buy a computer.

Go to Fuwell on the 4th floor, use these specs:rashmi wrote:budget is around 1000SGD.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ & MSI K8NGM2-IL ~ $373
Patriot PC3200 DDR400 1GB (2X512MB) ~ $138
Hitachi 7K80 SATAII 80GB 8MB 7200RPM ~ $90
BenQ DW1640 16X DVD±RW ~ $79
CoolerMaster Extreme 430W ~ $79
Casing ~ $40
That's 699 so far. Add in speakers and a webcam and that's about 800 total, which leaves you with 200 for the monitor.
Are you looking at an LCD monitor? Or is CRT ok for you?

Re: Broadband connection
Hi Rashmi, I can't post or reply a message here but I've 2 sets of IBM laptops and a Compaq P4 desktop system with 15" TFT LCD going for less that S$1,000 each. You can save the hassle of going to Sim Lim as you may end up buying nothing from there. Please reply with your contact number at tigercslee@yahoo.com.sg and will arrange preview and testing before you decide buying them. Thanks, Stephenrashmi wrote:Hi

You need to list the exact specs. We wouldn't want rashmi getting poor, obsolete parts.NewCreation wrote:Hi Rashmi, I can't post or reply a message here. Fuwell is a reliable, honest shop with good prices.rashmi wrote:thanks bremen - with 200 can i get a LCD monitor.
can 1000 SGD get me a laptop with minimal configuration as suggested by our friend.
any other shops in Sim Lim
cheers
200 will NOT get you a brand new LCD monitor, sadly.
For a decent-performing laptop you'll need at least 1300, and then still additional money for the webcam.

There are lots of shops in Sim Lim that sell complete bundle PCs for under 1000SGD. They may not be the fastest, but they're good enough.
Avoid the Intel Celeron processors. If you're on a super-tight budget, go for AMD Sempron.

Don't you think a budget of $1,000 for a desktop is too much? 2 years ago I got one for about $500 and it works pefectly. I assume the same budget would give a much better deal now.
If I am correct rashmi is interested mainly by home applications and internet.
