Of words & broken smiles.....

Post by tiki » Sun, 12 Mar 2006 12:34 pm

Writing about a music legend in another thread makes me think of all the beautiful lyrics out there in music land.

One of my favorites would be the line-

'Look for the girl with a broken smile
ask her if she wants to stay awhile'

from Maroon 5's She Will Be Loved. That line just hit me for some reason.

What's yours?
'If you feel alive
in a darkened room
Do you know the name
of your solitude..'

Bruce Springsteen The River

At night I'd lie awake and pull her close just to feel every breathe she takes.

Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his song
Killing me softly with his words
Killing me softly with his song.'

If you want to
I can take you
I can take you
Away from here

So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was
Somebody who cared

All you wanted

Jimi Hendrix, Little Wing

Well she’s walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that’s running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

When I’m sad, she comes to me
With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free
It’s alright she says it’s alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
Anything.

Fly on little wing,
Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing

And the other beautiful one, Angel (also good old Jimi)

Angel came down
From heaven yesterday,
Stayed with me just long enough
To rescue me....

And she told me a story yesterday;
About the sweet love
Between the moon and the deep blue sea.

Then she spread her wings high over me.
She said,’I’ll come back again to see you tomorrow....

And I said fly on, my sweet angel.
Fly on through the sky.
Fly on, my sweet angel.
Tomorrow I’m gonna be by your side....

Sure enough,
This woman came home to me.
Silver wings silhouetted against a child’s sunrise....

And my angel,
She said unto me,
’today is the day for you to rise.’
Take my hand, you’re gonna be my mind,
And she took me high over yonder.....

And I said fly on, my sweet angel.
Fly on through the sky.
Fly on, my sweet angel.
Tomorrow I’m gonna be by your side

Rockwell - Knife

You touched my life
With your softness in the night
My wish was your command
Until you ran out of love

I tell myself I’m free
Got the chance of livin’ just for me
No need to hurry home
Now that you’re gone

CHORUS:
Knife
Cuts like a knife
How will I ever heal
I’m so deeply wounded
Knife
Cuts like a knife
You cut away the heart of my life

When I pretend
Wear a smile to fool my dearest friends
I wonder if they know
It’s just a show

I’m on a stage
Day and night I go through my charades
But how can I disguise
What’s in my eyes

CHORUS

Oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh…

I’ve tried and tried
Blocking out the pain I feel inside
The pain of wanting you
Wanting you

Knife
Cuts like a knife
How will I ever heal
I’m so deeply wounded
[2X]

You cut away the heart
Of my life

and 3 Doors down- here without you

A hundred days have made me older since the last time that I saw your pretty face
A thousand lies have made me colder and I don’t think I can look at this the same
But all the miles that separated
They disappear now when I'm dreamin' of your face

I'm here without you baby but you're still alone on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby but you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight it's only you and me

The miles just keep rolling as the people leave their way to say hello
I've heard this life is overrated but I hope it gets better as we go

I'm here without you baby but you're still alone on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby but you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl it's only you and me

Everything I know, and anywhere I go
it gets hard but it won't take away my love
And when the last one falls, when it's all said and done
it gets hard but it won't take away my love

I'm here without you baby but you're still alone on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby but you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight girl it's only you and me

I'm here without you baby but you're still alone on my lonely mind
I think about you baby and I dream about you all the time
I'm here without you baby but you're still with me in my dreams
but tonight girl it's only you and me
"Every day is Christmas and every night is new year's eve... "

Let's not forget Sid and The Sex pistol's fabulous renditionof the old Sinatra classic...

"And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
You c*nt, I'm not a queer
I'll state my case of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
And each and every highway
And yet, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
I saw it through without exemption
I've planned each charted course
Each careful step along the highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

There were times,
I'm sure you knew
When there was f*ck, f*ck
F*ck all else to do
But through it all,
When there was doubt
I shot it up or kicked it out
I faced 'em all and the world
And did it my way

I've loved and been a snide
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now the tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think, I killed a cat
And might I say not in the gay way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way

For what is a brat,
What has he got
When he wears hats and he cannot
Say the things he truly thinks
But only the words,
Not what he feels
The record shows,
I've got no clothes
And did it my way"
The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible.

You are right Vaucluse and the dates as when they joined, almost to a year on the nickle.

Eric posted Jimi Hendrix though cos if he had say, posted 'Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You'... then we would have gotten a doppleganger.

..that song 'Knife', cuts deep and has gotta be the sharpest in the drawer.

Over to you Vaucluse.

Haven't we done this topic to death??

And c'mon, who's going to admit that they would exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? Answer: no one.

I too noticed the EFTN/RYG shared avatar thing and thought it best not to discuss it.

So, Eric and Rose . . . It's actually Eric in drag. Seriously, have you ever seen Eric and Rose at the same table? At exactly the same time? Exactly?!
