Making money from a website

I need something new to fill my time here while I look for work and was considering starting a website. Was wondering if anyone has any experiences using google adsense? or any other website advertising? I know it wont make any fortunes but I just want to cover the costs of domain names and hosting etc.

I put google adsense on my blog that started about the beginning of February. I have made $9.26 since then... but I don't think they pay you until you are up to $100, so it may be quite a long time. It's http://americansinoz.blogspot.com if you want to see it. It's just a little ad at the top of the blogs. Good luck!
