traveller's checks or credit card ?

Post by Piouf » Tue, 07 Mar 2006 5:37 pm

Hello everybody,

I might go for a 3 month intenship in SIngapore and I don t know how I should organize my self about money. 3 month is a bit short to open a local bank acount, you have to pay quite a lot to widraw money with a credit card, I don t know much about traveller's checks but I always saw quite a bad rate on moneychangers screens. And of course I cannot bring all in cash...

Anyone got any experience or idea on that subject ?

Thank you !

Use a Visa or Mastercard debit card associated with your home account. They usually have Cirrus and a bunch of other networks and you can get all the cash you want. Debit card rates are about the same as bank wire transfer rates plus a transaction charge. It's just a cost of convenience.
