ibooks not recongnizing printer

Post by Matney » Mon, 06 Mar 2006 6:27 pm

We have 2 ibooks G4( purchased Oct. 2004, the other June 2005)which when we try to print wireless using airport express it doesn't recognizing the printer (Epson or Hp). This started happening about 3 months ago. If I take my ibook to work it has no problem recognizing the printer there, also hp. Apple couldn't help and the number to call wasn't much good either (without promising everything to them first). We have had a guy in to have a go, but he isn't into ibooks, so no good either. Help or you will soon see 2 ibooks for sell!
fyi--we live on the East Coast in a condo, if that would possibly have anything to do with the problem. :???:

Matney,
Your ibook is obviously configured for the printer at work but not the one you have at home (that is the default printer is the one at work).

Try this and let me know: click on Start-printers and faxes and see which one is ticked as the default printer, you can change from one to the other depending whether you are at home or in the office but don't forget.

Hope this helps.

It has been configured to the printers at home, then I change or share when I go to work, and back again when home. We thought maybe it had something to do with our old printer (Epson), so we purchased the Hp. Our children have the older computers, not ibook or mac, and the printer will recognized their computers.
What I found VERY frustrating that Apple was NOT helpful in answering our problem.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

The local Apple people are the most inept, techoilogically inept pack of rat bastards god ever created. Call 6 835-1812 and ask for a private service provider -- there are a few based out of Funan and have them come to your house. Don't bring it to anyone since the problem may be in your set-up at home. In the meantime have you tried the discussions at Apple? It might help.

That's the thing with Apple... Steve Jobs created this Reality Distortion Field that makes everyone believe that Macs "just work".

So when they "Don't Work", you're stuck up a creek with no paddle.

My husband will try the phone number given and use the wording "private service provider" and hopefully will get some sort of result. He has tried that number on Monday, but wasn't happy with the response he was getting.

It seems odd that we have these TWO computers and neither will recognise the printer, but the old 'farts' computers work wonders. :???:

Thanks for the advice and help given. :)

An update on the this sorry saga.... husband took one ibook to the shop and of course after much convincing, they plugged it into their printer. Bingo it printed! :o Of course, it must be a problem with our printer. Our printers are (a) Epson less than 18 months old and (b) HP less than a week old.
He came home and called again, explained the situation and after several phone calls FINALLY got a technican to come out. They tried several tiimes, both computers. Guess what? No printing would occur!
It has been decided that there 'maybe' a fault with the airport express (which is also under warranty). Now we wait until this is decided, but at least we feel like at least something is happening--FINALLY!! [-o<
