1 Do I need to apply for this licence?
You will need to apply for a Non-Residential TV Licence from the Media Development Authority (MDA) if you or your organisation operate or have on any premises owned or occupied by you or your organisation, any broadcasting apparatus which are capable of receiving broadcasting signals. These include personal computers, which are enabled to receive TV programmes. Please note that you will need a TV Licence as long as the TV set is capable of receiving broadcast signals, regardless of how you may be using it on your premises. Examples of uses are product demonstrations, training, graphic design, viewing slides and watching videos.
2 What conditions do I need to fulfill?
For company,business or LLP applicants, you must be registered with the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), formerly the Registry of Companies and Businesses (RCB), and for societies, you must be registered under the Societies Act (Cap 311). For all other applicants, there is no minimum criteria.
3 What supporting documents do I need to submit?
No supporting document is required for business, companies, LLPs and societies.
4 How soon can my application be processed?
Generally, a completed application will be processed within 5 working days. Any incomplete or incorrect submission may result in a delay in the processing time.
5 How much does this licence cost and how long is it valid?
The annual Non-Residential TV licence fee is $110 per TV set and the licence is valid for 12 months from the date of registration.
For hotels where more than 90% of the guestrooms are installed with TV sets, the annual licence fee is $82.50 per TV set. For hospitals, the annual licence fee is $55 per TV set.
