Yes, even if u have Masters degree (which some of the others do), they still need your O levels results. It form the basis of their judgment of your acadamic qualities. And Maths and Physics are probably 2 of of the most important subjects u need, cos the physics applications and maths calulations in ATPL is much more tougher than O Levels.

Somebody with a masters degree can forget about their 'O' level results
whether their maths suck or not. The ATPL is for pilots not cabin crew.

I don't know whether they will still ask for the 'O' level results or not but I doubt it and would be very surprised since any degree invalidates lower qualifications.

Hi Plavt, it was nice of u to PM me asking what's ATPL and clarifying on this post.

Yes, i'm talking about pilots, not cabin crew. Being through the whole process myself, knowing a number of fellow collegues in SIA group that have master degree (I only have a bacherlors degree in case u wonder), MBBS, ACCA, or are professional lawyers before they became pilots, and knowing people who are helping out in the interview process, and flying with SIA group now, i dare say they would still require your O levels results.

Refer to this which was taken out from our website... I bold some words to make it easier to comprehen

- Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or Malaysian Citizen
- GCE ‘A’ level, Polytechnic Diploma or Degree. IN ADDITION you MUST HAVE obtained a MINIMUM of 5 Credits in the GCE ‘O’ level or its equivalent. These MUST include English, Mathematics and a Science subject, preferably Physics, taken in one sitting.

(During my time, they even require PURE physics, but i'm not that old la)

Its states clearly that the 5 credits are IN ADDITION to your other qualifications. Anyway, its just credits, which in local context means a simple pass, we are not talking about distinctions here.

Anyway, this is how, the office staffs filter out the suitable applicants from the mountains of "fan" mails. In fact, as long as u are not someone "special", and do not have the 5 credits in O levels, your application will be chuck aside. Period!

btw, we are talking abt applying to b a cadet pilot right? What do u mean by sux? cos to some nerds, anything less than A1 is sucky :???: The minimum that they will consider is a pass, or C6.

Aviator: ....wasn't really guessing.

blackapple: Tough? It's mostly a question of health, e.g. all the right things in the right places, medical history like asthma, fits etc or anything else which might significantly affect you in your chosen profession. It's easy for those who pass, and tough for those who fail - you've either got it or you don't. If you have a condition which you feel may be detrimental to your flying ambition, I'd suggest that you see the SIA doctor on your own (ask around, it's easy to find out who and where) and see if it can be fixed before applying to join.

Medical check up

Post by chanyl » Fri, 30 Mar 2007 12:44 am

Hi Blackapple,

It's not difficult at all if you do not have any big health problem. The doctor will only do a brief check on your body, an x-ray at Raffles Medical Hospital and a urine test at the clinic itself. As long as you dun have any big problem with your body, like contagious diseases etc, you will do fine, unlike joining a foreign airline.

I went for Etihad airway's medical check up, and I am required to do blood test, urine test, x-ray, dental x-ray and check up, and the worse thing is that I actually had 7 vaccinations in total. Not only did it cost me a bomb, my arms hurt for more than 3 days.

I hope the information will make u feel better. Congrats for getting in!

Regards,
Ms Chan

i've been selected for the med checkup. it's next friday. i've just grad from school. i know that med checkup confirmation will take a while right? so i'm just afraid that i'm wasting time not looking for other jobs too as backup. def i hope to pass and fly. i'm healthy and a sport-person. just trying to play-safe. hehe.

:D
