Now Word has gone...

Post by Em Eye » Wed, 22 Feb 2006 9:51 pm

So I had trouble with Hotmail earlier today it's now fixed (thanks Baron Greenback!). I had to download Macroflash for a website. It didn't download properly so I uninstalled it and then I had no word left. All my Word documents can't be opened as they are all white rectangles with a red A in the bottom right hand corner. I HATE my computer today. I looked in my recycle bin and nothing that I can tell that I should recover. Can anyone please help me???? Otherwise this laptop will propably be thrown out the window!!

First of all open up internet explorer and select Tools-Internet Options-Delete Cookies, then delete files Then close Internet Explorer.

Go to: Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore and set an earlier date when you remember things working correctly it should tell you to shut down and restart. You may lose some programs if you have recently installed something so I hope you have saved that spybot if not don't worry you can always download another.

If this does not work then re-install Word from the disc that came with the machine (hoping you kept all the discs that came with it).

Hope this helps.

I presumed you're talking about opening word documents from windows explorer? Have you tried opening them inside word directly? I'm guessing that would work. Sounds like your association for .doc files is missing. Just right-click a .doc file and choose Open With, Choose Program, select Word and check the Always use... checkbox.

Actually all he said was that he couldn't open word documents.

What does Macromedia Flash have to do with your MS Word documents? Are you trying to open from a browser? Why? If you're opening files on your harddisk, you should be using Windows Explorer.

Em Eye - it sounds like you have some serious problems going on.

If I were you I would download & install some software that may help.

Try ad- aware, to check that you don't have any spyware clogging up your computer:
http://www.download.com/3405-8022-51535 ... l&tag=top5

and you should also do a virus check, a good free anti virus piece of software is avast:

http://www.avast.com/

Both programmes are free although avast does require registration to get the registration key.

Take these & call me in the morning
good luck
