Try papaya soap which is really popular among the Fillipino community. This item can be bought from Lucky Plaza, common brands are Lilyas (something like that).

I read about this in other forums and I went out to try it. This really works, it really whitens the skin but it is very drying. It cost only about $1-$1.50.

There is a Japanese pharmacy on the basement of Takashimaya. You can find skincare and bodycare products there. They have a specific product that you use on the rough spots such else elbows and knee cap area to remove dead skin cell and in the process helps lighten the skin. Dead skin cells tend to darken over time and if you exfoliate consistently, will bring out your natural color and will make your skin soft and smooth too. It will however not make you look fairer than your actual complexion (determined by genetics). If I remember correctly, the product is a white soap bar. If you can read Chinese (kanji), you should be able to spot it or else ask the SA for help.
