It's that time again...

Singapore Idol is coming. It seems like a weird sense of "I have talent and I'm just waiting to be discovered" comes over people. *shudder*

I know this because there the group of teenage boys on the bus this morning thought they would entertain everyone with a really, really atrocious version of some pop song (I think). What was weird though, was that no one but me found it amusing... Trouble was, that when I grinned and made eye contact with one of them, he took it as a signal that I thought he was good, and started popping out some dance moves and all!!!

There are people who hang out at our condo pool till all hours and belt out ghastly sounds. Another person in the next condo gets her karaoke machine out in the morning and gets her pipes going before breakfast.

I really am finding it hilarious. This society of usually straight-laced people are non-plussed by whacking out a ballad in public. Has anyone else seen any "street talent" emerging?

Mrs S and I quite enjoy watching the various Pop Idol programmes on TV. The British one recently finished with a very deserved winner in Shane Ward and now the US one has started again!

We've got a friend over here who used to work behind the bar at our local. Her dream has always been to get into the music biz and she definitely had the voice, looks and talent to do it but never got the right break. We always said she should enter Pop Idol but she always declined as she wanted to make it on her own. (A few years ago she won a comp to become a member of a all girl band which got nowhere)

Anyway just after christmas she comes into the bar and proudly announced that an international all girls band had asked her to be the replacement for one of the girls who had just left! She has spent the last month in the recording studio and flying around the world living her dream.

Now you've got to try and guess which band it is!?

Yes that's the one! We all know her as plain Emma. She had a couple of days off and took the time to pop in and see us all last Saturday night down our local.

I know, it is strange. Son has links with the Stereophonics through friends, and my daughter is good friends with and went to college with Violet, the barmaid of the Rovers (Coronation Street to those not in the know) and it's the last thing I would do ...ask for autographs. There's also a member of a new young hard rock group who live two doors up from me....called The Automatics.....kid really, but when I see the guy now I feel strange....trying not to stare, because his mum has told us how the manager of the group has warned them all about media snapping them and fans etc....(If you're not into rock you'll perhaps not know them....but they're famous enough for a boy of 18 to have bought his own house, so can't be doing badly...)
