Hi there,

I was recruited from UK to work for Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) 6 months ago. I have no regrets. SCB has a really good reputation here in Asia, as well as Africa. and middle east. If you check their share price, it's going from like 5 quid, to 7 to 10 to 12 to 14....it obviously shows it's growing. And if it's not a great employer, it obvioulsy can't have good staff, and won't be able to grow so quickly!

SCB focus on work life balance. Senior management is creative, from top to bottom, they are full of energy, a bunch of vibrant people from different backgrounds/countries. They work hard, yet they play hard, and they expect the same from you.

If you do a bit of research on SCB, you'll findthat they reall care for the communities, that's one of their great success...

I personally think it's a great place to work for, and it has great people to work with, work for...

If you have more questions, feel free to pm me. ps...I do accounts work for corporate finance, so if you have any specific questions in relation to SCB Singapore's finance, PC, and Corporate Finance departments, I might be able to provide more details...

Bonnie :)

I've been with the bank for 10 months and am quite proud to tell people I'm from SCB. Standard Chartered is one of the oldest foreign banks (after ABN Umro) here in Singapore and currently have over 2500 employees in Spore alone. Its made a huge contribution to community through its "seeing is believing" campaign - curing blindness in developing countries. The people in SCB are very passionate about their work in the bank. Its even rubed off on me! Its definitely a brand that I would want to associate myself with.

PC (Product control) has been working from say 8:30 to 8ish...i think on average,

I ususally go on time,

but standard hours in SCB is 8:30 to 6:30pm, friday not sure official policy or not, people go by 5:30

Mick,

Depends very much on the role that you're doing. Dealers sometimes have to work unusual hours (like come in early morning, or work public holiday). Marketing ppl work long hours, expecially if they have a campaign to push out. If youre in finance, you're looking at 10 hr day (8.30 to 6.30pm). Fridays you finish at 5.30pm. No weekend work. Of course, like any job, dont be surprised to work past 6.30pm

Most managers are quite "westernised" in their thinking and tend to take a flexible approach with their staff's working hours. Working environment is quite good too, depending where you're based. SCB staff are a very diverse bunch of people from all over the world. Dont expect to only see locals here.

Cheers

Hi folks,

You have inspired me to look at your bank as a possible employer. Is it difficult to get a job in Standard Chartered in the area of Learning & Development/ Organisation Development?

Appreciate the info.

Cheers.

Yup.. i was once frm SCB. Boy the experience there was great. I never experienced such a working environement. Trust me... Not good.. But Great place to work in! Well, kinda regret leaving the bank.

Hello20: Oh... Anyway, if you wana get into the bank, u can try Kelly Services. They are handling the lower level kinda jobs. Those jobs posted in SCB are more for senior and managerial level kind.

IndiaCA: maybe you can try to apply the job in India itself? BCP is held frequently in chennai itself. SCB still have offices in India. Check it out!

erosenin, so why leave?

I'm looking for a senior position and not a low level position. Currently, I'm in a senior position in a non-banking industry.
