Singapore Banks

Post by dean » Wed, 25 Jan 2006 1:53 pm

Hi,
I've already moved to Singapore but I don't get paid until the 18th of Feb. Does anyone have any recommendations for banks?
I want internet banking, plenty of ATM's etc etc. Do any of them have promotions if you open a bank account with them?

Thanks in Advance
Dean

If you are in the position I was in - i.e. not having been paid, but needing money (a fair amount at some places) to open a bank account; I'd recommend DBS. The lowest minimum deposit to open a savings account - $500.
Good luck!

Yes and they provide internet banking services too which are very convenient. Almost every person in Singapore has an account with POSB/DBS.

UOB is also a good bank to go with, they have lots of atms all over the place too. I also think they have $500 as a minimum deposit for certain accounts.

Yes, POSB/DBS have the most ATMs, but also the longest queue.

Watch out for the charges in order to use a bank account!

You would probably open a saving/deposit account, as the current account don't give you any interests.

Hi there Dean!

Hope this is not too late a reply for you. Well, just a question before I proceed.

Have you gotten your Singapore Permanent Residency (PR)?

This is because UOB, in my opinion, is quite a good bank, but the most terrible thing is there are a lot of perks that Singaporeans and its PRs enjoy, but for people with no PR status yet, its kinda difficult.

It happened with my schat and he was not allowed even a debit card, even though he already had his PR status approved in principal (meaning only the physical blue ID not received yet) and his minimum deposit was much higher. Not too shure if its because of his EU passport though.

DBS was slightly better, but still a little tricky but I must say that its much friendlier according to him.

So my advice is to take your time and your pick and make shure you have enough money in the bank to maintain the minimum balance, or you'll be penalised :)
