Import Taxes on Shipments

Post by Nancy I » Fri, 20 Jan 2006 7:14 am

Hi, We are paying for our own shipment from Ecuador to Singapore. I am just starting to gather info. Could anyone tell me or point me in a direction to find out the info on import taxes on a personal shipment? It will only be items that are near and dear to our hearts so it will not be a big shipment (approx 500 lbs). Thanks!! :)
Nancy :)

Personel effects are exempt from tax as long as you have owned them for >3 months in your home country. I am told that they tend to open and look at boxes if they contain cds/dvds. So make sure you don't have any unauthorised copies. In my case, they did not open my boxes even though I mentioned that they contained cds.
