windows media center and downloading singapore TV guide

Post by sillingw » Thu, 05 Jan 2006 4:59 pm

I guess the title says most of it, Just bought a condo here and am putting together a similar system to the one I had in San Francisco (God bless High Definition TV) So i'm looking around at the possibility of using media center as my TV (Tivo) but cannot find the channel guide on-line. Is anyone doing something similar - and no I'm not american I'm British - just lived there for 12 years

HDTV and Cable

HDTV is apparently being trialled in Singapore towards the end of the year and the current cable broadcasts are not completely digital.

I've been following the HDTV trials, I have a HDTV plasma and high end receiver, so I'm ready, this is more of a question regarding creating a TIVO like device on a high end computer. If I can download an electronic copy of the starhub guide, I then put into my computer, I can record future shows to my hard disk for replay later, so I'm trying to find a site that has an electronic copy of the starhub TV guide - doesn'treally matter if the program itself is analog or digital. but thx for the reply

Sadly Microsoft and Starhub haven't sorted this out so there is no EPG for media center out of the box. There was a custom solution provided by one of the guys from HTPC gear, but it somehow managed to upset Starhub. You can read the full history here.

Many thanks Jedi, just what I was looking for, even though it's no longer available, it's a great community.

Well things come and go, i did use the HTPC guys solution, but since they have shut down their web site, it was no longer working. After some research and trial and error, I managed to figure out how to do this. It's really not that difficult. So I now have my 7 day program guide back up and running, and recorded the man city, Villa game whilst I was asleep, last night, watched this am. The solution is pretty cool as it gets an update to the program guide every night and allows you to set any program to record, it can change the channels on the starhub cable box, set recording for a whole series, I can share the recorded program with any computer in the house. No more late nights for the key EPL games coming up :)
