NYE at Sentosa

Post by cneil » Sun, 01 Jan 2006 9:16 pm

Did anybody go to Sentosa for New Year's. How was it?
I was kind of curious about going, but I wasn't sure it would be worth it. If the reports are good, maybe I will go next year.

Arrived late, or early as the case may be. 4am or so I guess. Couldn't find anywhere to get a drink. Lots of music. Foam party (90% male) was going on. Funny to watch all the guys circle around the few girls inside.
If you are into big outdoor parties, you would probably like it. Leaving Sentosa drunk at dawn can be a pain though.

I went there.
And my advice for next year is DO NOT GO THERE!

I arrived at 11PM, we could notice already too many people for too few security guards. But I said :"we should be ok, singapore is very safe" :(

11:30PM my wallet was stolen by a runnaway guy and his partner. I spent the next 25 minutes trying to get back my backpack from the bag's deposit at the entrance, walking around with security guard trying to find my wallet and filling forms.

Next at 00:30 AM I saw the first confusion. No people hurt so far.
around 1:20 AM I saw the second confusion, this time 1 guy got totally beat up by other 3 guys. A few minutes later the poor guy came with his friends. General confusion stablished in the foam party for the next 5 minutes because these 2 gangs were fighting.

Around 2:30 AM another fight and this time 3 guys came to bother my wife. When then we judge better leave the party.

The outside area ,where the MTV guys were, was very quiet and peaceful. In fact, it looked much more like Singapore style. Very nice and cool music playing, and everyone just watching well behaved :)

Other than that, the party was ok (!?), but the foam party was definitelly 'outlaw's land'.

Next day, january 1st me and my wife we went to police station to fill more forms as suggested by sentosa guards. There we discovered that many fights complains were registered, so that foam party was indeed not a good idea.

My advice: next year find another place to go other than sentosa.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am glad I did not go. I did a blog search and I only found one person (a 17 year old who sneaked in) that enjoyed it. Otherwise, the verdict comes back negative for almost everybody who attended.

I did have a great time over new years. I spent the evening on a rooftop pool. We had a view of a clock tower and at midnight everyone jumped in the pool at the same time. Then we were able to watch all three fireworks displays simultaneously.

When I scan the year's news headlines, I really hope 2006 is better than 2005. I'm ready for a New Year!
