I got a Canon Powershot A80 for S$600 last week.

Talked to a few people and they all commented that Canon was better in terms of quality. Sony is popular and well known for their designs rather than quality.

As for the P73, I was recommended that the A80 was a better buy.

You can try Alan Photo at Sim Lim. They quote reasonable prices and they give you everything in the box. Other shops may take out certain stuff and sell it to you at a cheaper price.

Why not go a shop that sells both models and get them to let you test it, then you'll get an idea of which you prefer.

I have a Minolta Dimage.

Very small and very handy.

I like to get my cameras from Harvey Norman as I am not a serious photographer and they have bundles (Package deals).

If you are really serious I suggest the Pennisula Plaza which has a lot of good camera shops.

Get a Fujifilm

Post by limtk55 » Sat, 31 Jul 2004 11:06 pm

I own a Fujifilm S5000

Rated with 5 stars on T3 for half a year!

Maybe a little bulky for beginners (SLR design)

But with 6 megapixel, 22x zoom and anti-shakyhands function (that's what I call it), it is really worth a closer look at.

Enough functions to keep you busy for a long long time. Price : S$799

Review :

Just my opinion.

Why would you want an SLR body without SLR functionality?

Speaking of which, I'm the proud new owner of a Nikon D70, and I'm head over heels in love; it's an amazing camera (and a real digital SLR too). But the price is fairly steep at ~S$2000 and it's definitely not a beginner's camera...

I haven't got down to the SLR part yet

If its worth anything,

Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Consumer Products, commented, "This is like an SLR's little brother - with all the enthusiast attitude, but less of the cost and complexity. Photography fans awaiting a truly compact digital camera capable of 10x zoom will be genuinely excited by the FinePix S5000 Zoom."

"Attitude" isn't very high on my shopping list when I buy cameras...

...and they have the audacity to call that thing a "compact"? The mind boggles.
