Hi folks,
In readiness for our move we have had a few shipping companies in to quite us for door to door shipment. The only thing I am worried about is that all of them have said that they only will deliver to a ground floor dwelling.
I am intending on renting a low rise condo but cannot guarantee we will be on the ground floor. Has anybody experienced what happens when their stuff arrives to their condo and you are not on the ground floor?
Will it just get dumped outside and wiil I be left with the problem of trying to shift it upstairs?
Cheers

Concern about door to door shipping
not sure where you are coming from... but we used Crown Relocations and they are an international company. The delivered to 14th floor condo with no service lifts (just regular small lifts) and we didn't have any problems. They arranged to pay the deposit at the condo that is required (should there be damage to the lifts during the move and they even unpacked the stuff that I wanted immedidately and they took all the garbage away with them. We never had any problems in the UK (during packing) or when we arrived here. But...don't know what they cost as the company we work for paid for the move.
I would check with the company in Singapore just to be sure about this 'ground floor only rule' because most people moving would have a problem since most of us don't live on the ground floor (or in houses for that matter!) Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, I have had a number of quotes from UK moving companies and they all have this caveat about delivering to ground floor only. I appreciate that in proportion not many people live on the ground floor in Singapore
I think thay are just covering themselves so that they could refuse if they wanted to. All the UK compnaies I contacted have agents in Singapore to deliver locally so they are not actually the same company but have a relationship with the local firm. I suspect that they don't want to commit on other company's behalf.
Crown Relocations was not a company I heard of before so if anything thanks for the tip on this company and I will contact them for a quote as well. I am bearing the cost myself for shipping and so looking for the best deal.
Cheers

I have observed many expat relocations and it seems that 20ft containers are rather popular! Now.. not many condos can accomodate 20ft containers within the compound, and usually it's a local Mover who will unpack the container (which is high up on a trailer), unto a smaller lorry, and from there, man handle the stuff to the lift lobby. And this container to small lorry transfer takes place along the public road, not within the compound of the condo. I can understand why international Movers are not willing to commit to door deliveries in Sg!
Just sharing my observations.
