Where to download music legally?

Post by Shana » Sat, 10 Dec 2005 4:23 pm

So the Singapore government has suceeded in scaring me and I have no wish to be hauled into jail over James Blunt's new song.

Until itunes becomes available in Singapore, does anyone know where to download music legally? The file format has to be ipod compatible and I don't mind paying. I heard an ad on the local radio recently about some site offering songs for $1.99 but didn't get a chance to catch the website..anyone know anything about this?

Cheers.
I am as strong as the friends I have, the hairspray I use and the coffee I drink.

I use iTunes. USD $.99 a song. Podcasts are free. For books I use Audible.com. :)

But how does anyone tell if an mp3 on my hard disk is legal or otherwise? Isn't it the process (of using Kazaa or Imesh) whereby they can nab?

Thanks Strong Eagle and Mary Hatch Bailey for the heads up.
Audible.com looks pretty amazing!

Riversandlake: Yes, I think they can only catch you if you are logged onto a P2P program though if I'm not wrong, they fine you according to how many illegal files you have after they catch you. Don't know how they'll determine which files are legal and which are legit though.

To answer my own question, I've found the most amazing site www.allofmp3.com. It's US $1-$2 per album or you get to download individual songs for like 10-20 cents..and they have practically everything. Download rates are quite fast too. It's Russian though and since it's so cheap, I doubt it's legal..does anyone know?

Hi Shana,

I believe you could try out Soundbuzz.com , they are one of the largest online music downloads in SEA.

What songs do you like best?

Enjoy
