PR to get married with a Foreigner

Post by joyful123 » Sat, 10 Dec 2005 10:16 am

hi,
need some advise here:

I am a SPR and my bf is a foreigner (European nationality). He is currently holding a student pass of a short course.
We are planning to ROM for registration before he leaves Singapore (upon completion the course, he is given till 7 days stay)

What are the chances of my bf of getting PR after we are married ?? Anyone who went through similar situation, pls give some advise...

Unfortunately it will not be of influence if you hold a PR here and get married to a foreigner. It doesnot in any way grant him a PR here, he will have to apply just as any other person. Even if you would be Singapore citizen, you still go through the same procedure as everyone else who wants to become Singapore PR: Apply for it.

ROM will tell you straightaway: You (hubby) will have no rights whatsoever for staying and living in Singapore after being married to a PR / Singapore citizen.

oh, yes, I am a PR here.... just had to apply like everyone else here...

Check on www.mom.gov.sg

So his chances are definitely above 0% with a PR wife?

Considering he is a student and has no job, his chances are pretty much 0, as RaL put it.

A good friend of mine, S-Citizen, lived with his gf for a few years while she was working here, they applied for RoM - rejected.
Second time - rejected.
Third time - approved.
PR applied for - rejected
Second time - rejected
Third time - approved

His now wife had always held a job for years before they met as well . . . Who knows why, as they don't give reasons.

It certainly helps if one or the other, preferably both, has a well-paid job, is Sing.-Chinese and good qualifications.

Did you just say even RoM application can be rejected? :o

The govt actually refuses to let them marry?!

I just want to share with everybody that I had my registration at the ROM with my French nationality husband on April 2006 . We got through ROM and 1 1/2 month later, he got his PR status. That's a great news for us.

Thank God !!

Congratulations Joyful1234, Both on your marriage and on your husband receiving his PR. I know how relieved you must feel.
