Post by Fursa » Fri, 09 Dec 2005 1:34 pm

My boy 2 y.o. has high temperature, 39c. Paracetamol helps for 7-8 hours than again t goes up... No running nose, no cough, nothing bothers him... It has been for 18 hours already. What would you recommend??? Are there doctors to invite for home visit?
thnx...

Think u should use a ice pack to bring down the temperature 39c is very high... I think u should bring him to the a clinic nearby and seek for advise dun wait at home for a doctor to come it may get worse.

We reduce the t with paracetamol. I do not like clinics, because the doctors are too general there. I only trust hospitals where they can all analysis there.

Don't be silly and go where he will get immediate care - if it's a clinic then go and make them take your son first! Insist on it and scream bloody murder if they resist

What are you waiting for? Just take him...the sooner the better for his sake.

If you don't trust the doctors in the clinics why not just go to the hospital?
A doctor who visits won't be any different to one in a clinic will it?

PS My 4yo boy currently has had a fever too, for the past 5 days in fact and has just been diagnosed today with mycoplasma and has commenced on megadose antibiotics. We had to wait this long to see if it may have been dengue fever.

How yr child right now? Has the fever gone? Seeing doctors & taking medicine frequently to stop the virus in the child will only temporary solve the problem. It will come back again after 1-2 mths.
Recently when my child had high fever, I tried natural herbs therapy as a last resort cos her medicine like what u had mentioned loses effect at 4am. It's works as her high fever fm 39 degrees drops to normal at 6am. I'm so relieved as I can save the time travel to hospital & $$$. Oh, it works well on flu, sinus and other areas as well. PM me if u want more info.

Panadol / paracetemol only masks what the body is trying to communicate.

The body is fighting an infection somewhere so in order to do so, it raises the body temperature. That is why you can give a child a dose, fever comes down for abit then 4 hours later it goes straight back up but it isn't solving the problem.

Frustrating I know because the whole time you have a sick and lethargic child.

One of the above posters had some good suggestions. Keeping fluids up and placing the child in a luke warm bath (not too cold). This can help bring the body's core temp down. Also a wet cloth on their head (usually find after a while the cloth too becomes hot).
I also agree with natural therapies as another poster has suggested. Start building the immune system to avoid this type of thing.

Remember if your not comfortable with your child's temp, you can seek the advice of those at the A&E (sometimes I find they can be too general as well). They may suggest a suppository to bring the fever down quickly and monitor to see what other symptoms develop that may give them more info. Or his body might work beautifully at fighting the dreaded infection off and once that happens, the fever breaks.

Good luck and I hope he gets better soon.
