Whew, you too WIMH? I thought it was just my poor old computer. It is very slow tonight, almost putting me to sleep waiting to load each page.

Yeah, I do remember you using that signature before SMS. Just never really hit me that it was showing my own IP address!

Yeah, and what IS with the page loading times these days?

it's getting to the point that I hit reply to respond to the post, and by the time it loads, I can't remeber what I was responding to, or what I was going to say!!!

Yeah! Eric is back, but cranky. Has any one ever heard the rumor that many taxi drivers are ex-Singapore intelligence? This is why they ask so many questions about: where you stay? how much you pay? You like Singapore?

I also know plently of people who believe their phone is tapped. SMS, have you ever heard this? When I came in '94 lots of people talked about it like it was commom place.

Do you mean the content of the various contributors or the data packet transmission speed?

Seriously, every web page has an IP address. Every post has an IP address. It's how things get sorted out and delivered to the right computer. Most computers will give up their operating system name and the browser you are using, not much more if you are firewalled.

So, your porn collection is safe... probably wouldn't be to my liking anyway, would it?

thanks. but i know what an ip address is. i just didn't know what my specific address was. i'm dumb but not that dumb.

Yep, That was always the first thing you learned (sic!) here was the taxi driver were either intelligence or ex-cops (actually back then quite a few were VCP's (voluntary constabulary police). Except for the pirate taxi's out in Seletar Airbase (today they are part of the Delgro group I believe - yellow top taxi's).

Actually, I believe the average heartlander today still believes the phone lines are tapped. Often I wonder as well, considering how efficient the police are without looking like they ever do anything!

When I first arrived one of my local staff members told me that all e-mails are read by the government!!! LOL

Lets just get a technical point straight here.

Its not a person9s) that checks through all mobile/land/sms/emails etc - This is all done by computer systems. They are programmed to sift through enormous amounts of data in short time looking for key words and phrases or to focus on certain inidviduals or groups depending unpo what intel is around and what they are trying to achieve.

The more key words/phrases the higher the piece of data rises until it reaches a point where a intel officer will personal check it.

It is not possible that Singapore has this in place - It is fact. The same goes for most western countris including Australia, New Zealand and USA to a certain degree. The bigger the country the harder it is to channel and contain such a huge volume of info so the less likely it is you will get picked up but in country the size of Singapore they will have full coveragae in place.

BTW if you are working with or your live in partner is working with any high level or security clearnance aganecy/projects in Singapore then your office and homes have, are or will be randomly screened and bugged.

Besides which Singapore has in place undercover 'agents' (basically everyday people) that make reports on people in there areas and in there offices - They could be your brother, next door neighbour, etc.

But as we say around the office - We sign the OSA and as such we know our lives are on a plate. So if youve got nothing to hide then it should'nt really worry you.
