If they are so mistrustful of non-singaporeans they why is it that the whole military setup here is only designed to maintain a 72 hours standoff capability until their (not-trustful?) allies get here to bail them out? e.g., the 7th fleet. If I remember correctly, even the MM said, when the US left the phillipines, he would love to base them here but unfortunately the size of the base in the phillipines was bigger that the entire country of Singapore.

Methinks gohkatkat has a bit of paranoria. Worse part of it is that the paranoria was probably instilled early on what with the mistrust of certain races in the current military that 'still' aren't allowed to be promoted to "flag" rank. He's one of those who don't even trust his own countrymen. Nevermind. Just another one of SQx12343xx's or May4's personalities I guess. Definitely from out of this world or on something.

Oh wow! This is truly interesting stuff.
I think there is is a lot of paranoia flying around here. Why is it harder to swallow a foreigner wanting to do NS in SG than a Singaporean enlisting for example in the US?
Maybe the reason for the Singaporean mistrust in foreigners is just that: that the people who come to work there stay for a limited time and stay foreigners! Is it really incomprehensible that somebody from the outside might like to stay for the duration? :o
You do what you are.
