Strawberry Fields Forever

Post by Mary Hatch Bailey » Mon, 05 Dec 2005 3:37 pm

I remember exactly where I was and exactly what I was doing. I was in my room, getting ready for school. I was a senior that year and my Dad knocked on my door to tell me that John Lennon had been shot and killed in front of the Dakota in New York City. Hard to believe its been 25 years. Still hurts. :(

It was the same week or there abouts, when our family took delivery of our yacht. We'd spent arguing over what we should name her but in the end it was obvious. Imagine!

Still very sad and it deprived us of many years of lennon's genius

Yes, very sad memories - I was in Abu Dhabi at the time, but still vividly remember it.

Time heals - do we think Chapman has served enough time yet? Should he be released?

Will he ever be released?

Yeah I remember sitting home alone at home and hearing it on the radio...couldn't believe it and just burst into tears. The rest of the family came home later and couldn't understand what had happened to make me so sad. It still makes me sad so many years later.

My teenage nephew has turned into a Lennon fan and knows more of the songs than I do now. He didn't believe me when I told him how long ago it was that he died. Nice to know that good music really bridges a generation.

Let me take you down, ’cause I’m going to strawberry fields.
Nothing is real and nothing to get hungabout.
Strawberry fields forever.

The DJ at the bar I was at this evening dropped a Drum and Bass remix of Strawberry Fields. I shed a tear.

Why do we kill all the messengers of love and peace?

Jesus: Crucified

Ghandi: Murdered
2nd October 1869 – 30th January 1948

John Lennon: Gunned down
9th Oct 1940 - 8th Dec 1980
