How often your kids suffer from FLU???

Post by Fursa » Sat, 03 Dec 2005 4:01 pm

Hello Mummies! My boy is 2 y.o. We moved just 2 months ago and my boy often gets flu here. He usually have running nose and sore throat, itchy eyes. I worry a lot, because before moving he did not feel sick so often. What about your kids???

Sounds much more like an allergic reaction, probably mold, than influenza. What does you pediatrician say?

We've found the same thing. Constant stream of colds, coughs and running noses. It's enough to drive me round the bend! Before we came here, we were pretty healthy. It seems to have settled a bit in the last few months (touch wood), but it was certainly annoying - and worrying - in the first six months or so.

I guess the organism needs to get adjusted to a new environment with new pathogens, be it viruses, bugs, pollens... Plus the switch from aircon to hot air (back and forth) which doesn't help.

Living under the tropics is usually more challenging for the organism.

I think CD is correct--air con & hot air & back to air con & so on. I find that does it for a lot of people of all ages. How often are these air cons really cleaned and sserviced?

Thanks for all the answers!
k1w1, where are you from? How old was your kid when you had moved?

I'm a kiwi (New Zealander). My kids were 9 and 27 months when we moved here nearly a year ago.

Have you managed to find a good pediatrician here?

I have to agree with Carpe Diem. That moving to a new environment takes time for the body to adjust.

I moved here 13 years ago and my daughters (then toddlers) had the same thing over and over again.

Doctors would prescribe atleast 3 bottles of medicine. One for the mucous, one for the cough and generally an antibiotic. Of course not knowing any better (and not having the internet) I went along with it. Two months later they would be sick again.
The abx were killing their immune system so making them more suseptible to other bacteria / viruses etc.
I also discovered they were allergic to mould and this didn't help.

Now I am not anti antibiotics as I do think they have their place but I do think they are overly prescribed.
One option is to see a homeopath or naturopath. One who specialises in children and if anyne knows of one...let me know please

Good luck.

Sometimes it has to do with the condition of the air... - dusty, humid etc..
Even toxics from furniture, smoking, wall paints, cooking, detergent, purifier, bed, sofa, aircon...
Of course, recirculated air (Aircon) does not help too..
All these can cause sinus, sensitive nose, bronchitis, ashtma, migraine, weak immunity system, flu... in long run (which is bad for children)

Lets think, we seem to eat better quality of food, hygine water.. but we still get sick... perharps we neglect the most important factor of our daily necessity - that is AIR.
