I would second the suggestions above of Indochine at Emperrors Place and Doc Chengs. Both will cost a bit - but neither one will break you and in both cases you are paying for atmosphere and location. At Indochine - you can get a nice selection of SE Asian Cuisine and the views are sure to impress. It is also slightly fancy - but not in any way stuffy. Doc Chengs is more basic chinese - but with a stroll around Raffles before or after dinner - it makes for a nice dinner.

Orchard Towers? Well i admit i usually take my male friends for a stroll through. The place is like the Disneyland of whore houses. However, not really the kind of place that you really want to go with your wife...especially as you mention that you kind of screwed up last time...
