I saw something I thought was funny at Tanglin Market today. They have put in 2 new Scan/Pay/Go self-service checkout lines.

The funny thing is that each 'self-service' line had a cashier helping people to scan/pay. It seemed to defeat the whole purpose as the cashier only seemed to hinder the process and the people in this line got through much slower than I did going through a regular checkout line.

Only in Singapore would you find a full service self service checkout. :p

Thats odd. Seems to defeat the purpose of "self service".

But then again, maybe they just started on this new system and currently testing out.

I personally do not like self service, pretty tedious in hawker centre when u need to carry many plates of food and drinks.

My guess is that the system's in the prelimary/ trial stages, so perhaps it would require assistants to help out the people who are new to the system.

Can't imagine if the system get jammed ... so that's why they have to have staff assisting? :unclesam:
