Moving dilemma

Post by Pioneer » Wed, 30 Nov 2005 12:59 am

Hi folks,

Me and my family are moving to Singapore in January to start a new job with a local company. We are moving from the UK and we have a dilema as to whether to keep all our furniture and ship it over, or sell it here and rent a furnished condo (we will ship some small sentimental items whatever happens).
Does anyone have any experience for or against, plus what sort of money it cost to send over a medium sized house full of furniture?

cheers

Don't bring any furniture with you, we did the same mistake. The rent difference between furnished and unfurnished is not a lot and most of the condos are partially furnished.

Thanks for the advice, what did you do with yours once you got it, I presume you kept hold of it. There will undoubtly be somethings we will want to ship over which are more sentimental things rather than practical furniture.

What is the quality of furnished places like, this is one reason why we were considering bringing ours as we did not want to end up living with tired old furniture. We are planning to rent in a new condo of about $3K a month, so would be interested in your comments.

Also did you have to pay GST to customs for your stuff?

Cheers
