Christmas in Singapore

You can scoff all you like, but I have just returned from the delightful mulled wine and mince meat tarts, Christmas carols and tree lighting ceremony at the British Club.

I watched my very American daughter dance the 6 hand jig and the Australian grand champion, the scottish dancers, and the rest of the Irish dancers, (a full third who are of Asian decent) and I think to myself: not so bad. Not so bad at all.

What are you scoffing at? Have you ever seen my girl Irish dance? It's deeee-lightful! Better than all those slutty MTV hip gyrations girls are doing these days. And when I say 'girls' I'm talking about 10 year olds.


My point was that, it's nice to see different cultures and ethnicities come together. It is a fine example of the good things about Christmas in Singapore.

One more crack like that and you too will be a 'tosser'!

On the topic of multi-cultural Christmas, we had our pre-school concert a couple of weeks back and had a pretty similar scene. My kiwi-kids swinging tambourines and pom-poms to Chinese and Hindi songs about (well, okay I don't know exactly) but it was very cute.

My daughter (21 months) is a real show-off and screamed blue murder as the curtains started closing!

I like that when kids are somewhere so multi-cultural, nothing is normal so by default, everything is acceptable. Yeah, it's really cool.
