Smoking in Singapore

Post by queenmina » Mon, 28 Nov 2005 11:27 am

Been reading up a lot on the rules and regulations over there and I'm wondering... May I smoke on the street? May I smoke in a private residence (OK, I'm just beign ridiculous)? Or am I strictly limited to airconditions pubs, clubs, restos, et al?

Also, will customs throw me in jail if I bring a personal supply of cigarettes when I go over? I plan to be in Sing for a couple of days and was planning to bring my own brand. Is there a limit as to how much I can bring?

Thanks!

You can smoke on the street as long as you are not in a Bus Stop/Exchange or near a line-up (que) for something. Smoking in airconditioned bars is permited as well as hotel lobbies - Smoking in you house, car also can. Office, Shopping Centre and public toilets cannot.

Basic rule is check and see if there are any ash trays and if that fails just ask someone or watch for someone else lighting.

Singapore has no duty free allowance for cigarettes and if they catch you they will make you pay import duty. But if you are coming in from the airport it will be very rare that they check or catch or even care for that matter if you are here on a tourist visa.
