Most of the bigger stores like Best and Harvey Norman will have something. I believe the Korean brands (LG & Samsung) have at least one model each with at least the rear speakers wireless. IIRC Sony also has a model that's wireless.

N.B. The speakers have no speaker wires running to the main unit, but they do require power so will need to be in the remote vicinity of a power socket.

You can visit Adelphi beside the City Hall MRT Station. They sell mainly home theatre systems, may have what you are looking for.

I like this idea as whenever I buy a home theatre system the cables end-up getting mangled, tangled and covered in dust...

Any suggestions on what type of system to to get and what sort of price range we are looking at here?

There's a 3 piece system from Bose called Bose 3.2.1 GS II or something like that. It costs a little over 2k, but worth it. It produces 5.1 sound with 2 speakers and a sub-woofer. It comes with a dvd player too. If you already have a dvd player, you can go for Bose Cinemate, which I think is not yet available in SG.

The only issue I noticed with these so-called wireless HT systems is that one needs to have 2 power points where one wants to place one's rear speakers. Even though sound waves are transmitted in Radio Frequency, the rear speakers need to be powered to receive the signals. Even if they are powered, I'm not sure whether they are able to receive 100% signals without loss.

Here's the best I've found - a bit pricey though...

Sony is one of my fav brands and I have a Sony HTIB (HT-DDW760) in my living room. But I am a bit surprised to see Sony(in this model) uses Infra-red rays to transmit sound to rear speakers. which means one has to be very careful not to obstruct the rays while moving around the hall. It works similar to your TV remote. you can't operate if someone/thing is blocking.

Also there is another wire connecting 2 rear speakers. They need a power source too.

So.. all in all, the only wires that are less are the ones running from front to back of the hall. Is it worth paying so much for removing just 2 wires?

If at all you must have wireless HT, I'd recommed LG. I can't remember the model, but they use Radio Frequency waves to transmit the sound, hence not affected by any object movement in the hall. The rear speakers are separately powered, which means you will need 2 power sockets..one for each speaker. there's no wire needed to connect rear speakers. this is some what close to the word 'wireless'.

Whatever you choose, all the best.
