japanese/dutch/german interpreter

Post by mart1980nl » Wed, 21 Jul 2004 11:37 pm

Hi all,

I'm fluent in japanese(followed a 4-year interpreter/translator Oriental studies and communication course) as well as dutch, german and english.
What could be my job opportunities in SG? and the salary, what might I expect? Any help & information greatly appreciated! !

Martijn

You could try angling for a job in a Japanese company oriented towards Europe... although then you'd probably want to look at their European offices, not the ones in Singapore.

Do you have any other marketable skills? Business, technical, communication, almost anything would be a killer combo with those language abilities, but nobody is going to hire someone just for "Oriental studies".

Translation jobs in Singapore? I'm not an expert, just thought of some possible openings...UN Singapore office? Alternatively, the European Commission just opened its Asian HQ in Singapore (in June 2004), so there may be something worth checking out. Also, teaching in the Deutsch Schule Singapur? Good luck, though

Hi Martijn,

Japans is een unieke translatie mogelijkheid in Azie. Je zou eens moeten praten met de Nederlandse Ambassade in Singapore (www.nethemb.org.sg).

Groet,
Iwan

Actually I'm a Singaporean, I have a Singapore passport. But I live in Holland (The Netherlands) and when I'm twenty and after I finish my HBO studies, I have to go back to Singapore for army duty for two years.

I also would like to know how much chance I have for a job in Singapore. I can speak Dutch, English, bit of French and German. And besides that I studied Economy and Computers.

So who would tell me what my job opputunaties in Singapore are?

Thanks

Greetz,
Alvin
