Singnet

Once Singnet is up and going it fares pretty well. My flatmates play World of Warcraft and I don't have any problems downloading multimedia.

However, I kind of wish that I had cable and I have heard that Starhub is a little faster.

Take your pick.

It doesn't matter if you can download off their Singapore sever at megabit rates if they have nothing you want. My old 2mbps connection in the UK was faster than anything I've used in Singapore. Starhub, Singtel and Pacnet just pretend they have superfast connections but it's all local bandwidth only, international bandwidth sucks bigtime.
I’m experiencing the same. Got the StarHub Ultimate 30Mbit but when it comes to surfing websites outside of Singapore it’s as slow as my old dial-up. :x Back in Denmark I had a 2Mbit line that worked at least 10 times faster when accessing foreign websites.

Some internet pro's must have heard about the mighty proxy that shields us living in singapore from possible harmful websites?, i believe this is were the sing censorship blocks the famous 100 sites.

This is what possible creates the delay, and maybe it also monitors my visits to objectionable sites?

Anyone some information 'bout that?

We have also just moved into our apt and are confused about the various offers.

the advantage that we find with starhub offer is that u get a land line telephone connection with free outgoing and incoming and i believe there are discounts if one has star hub cable, internet and phone lines.
the rates are slightly higher than singtel.

pls do advise

cheers

On the subject of which ISP to go for - it would seem that people with Singtel are happy with that & people with Starhub are happy with them - so just go for whichever has the latest free gift or offer that you would like the most.

(Although technically - i think, Singtel will give you a dedicated line whereas Starhub is a shared cable, so if there are many people in the building using the connection it could be slowed down - think of water flowing through pipes)

On the subject of banned websites - there is a video hosting site that banned singapore (shoe on the other foot type thing). was after the hanging a few months ago. putfile.com - I tried to go there the other day but just error messages, when they first did it you got a message about how they don't like Singapore's attitude to death penantly etc etc

There has been some fishy thing'z with starhub MOL.

Am still using the MOL 2000 bandwidth , in recent months the speed has shot up very much. My investigation tells that beco'z starhub has been promoting the 6500/unlimited bandwidth with free gifts, 2000 bandwidth had been freed a lot. Hence it'z shooting up in speed.

Any comments !!!!

are you guys happy with your bandwith? of course if you do a speedtest you will get promising figures..well, as long as you choose the singapore
hub, but surfing beyound our barriers just sucks..... am I the only guy
here having serious performance issues? have the same issue at the
office, slightly faster but by far not that level what i'm used to be....

using 'the star' the 8MB down package

cheers

internet here is crap. The only time it runs fast is when the US is asleep. I work nights and find that downloading stuff for work takes ages.

I'm on the 8Mps and I'm told that there's no difference between that and the 12Mps or even the 100Mps unless they are local sites that can cater for higher speeds.

I'm on starhub and am wondering if singtel is any better.
Don't p*ss me off! I am running out of places to hide the bodies.
