Hey, professional Indians in their 40s-50s ...

Postby murvy » Sat, 05 Nov 2005 12:26 am

I am an Indian professional woman from a conservative Hindu family who grew up in Chinese-majority Singapore, worked in America for three years and now is grappling with an identity crisis. Are there any interest groups for professional Indian women and men in their 40s-50s? I like reading, politics/international affairs, Hindustani music, jazz, art movies (English or foreign), English theatre, travelling. Any discussion groups, wine clubs, book clubs, volunteer associations?? Please email psundram@hotmail.com

Three years in America and now identity crisis?
It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

identity crisis

Sapphire, I am not sure what you're quizzing. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. It's more a mid-life crisis than an identity crisis triggered by the American experience. That said, the crisis has been accentuated by the experience abroad. I became more aware of my Indian identity while living in the US and less well disposed to the globalization of American culture. On the other hand, I have also become less politically apathetic, less willing to accept conventional wisdom. Would love to meet people for intense conversations. Cheers

Ah, that's the kind of intensity I like. Except that wine is my preferred liquid ;-) But will have to defer any socialising till December -- am going out of town next week for an extended work cum personal trip. Will try to catch you and your gang in this forum later.

:D

Murvy, fro what I understand, it will tak more than a few beers with Sapphire . . .

Welcome to the gang, most of us are quite infantile, however, and will laugh at words like 'cum' when it's used in any context other than . . . Ooops . . . see, infantile.
