Game, set, shootout

Dutchman Sander 'Vo0' Kaasjager, 20, the world's best player in the shooting game Painkiller, plays a round on his laptop in an air-conditioned marquee at the Padang.

Mr Kaasjager is one of 200 professional cyberathletes now in town to take part in the Cyberathlete Professional League world tour, the world's largest professional cybergaming tournament with a combined prize pool of US$1 million (S$1.7 million).
As you can read, we're simply the best 8)

Any other world champs in the most weird disciplines?

Eric

Although I do take exception to the term cyberathlete . . . Just sounds too stupid to be take seriously.

I wonder if this kid has ever had, or will ever have, a girlfriend . . .

Not quite a Dutch World Champion Eric, but creditable 3rd!

Imaginary instruments and would-be rock gods
As an exception to the rule, Finland does host one peculiar sporting event in which success doesn't depend on brute force or resilience, but on creativity and sociability.

For already a decade, the northern Finnish town of Oulu has gathered imaginary guitar heroes to the annual Air Guitar World Championships. In recent years, more than fifteen nationalities have been represented in this light-hearted yet competitive global showcase enjoyed by thousands.

For the unschooled, air guitar is the art of pretending to play along to a rock solo or a chord sequence with nothing but an imaginary guitar and the fitting facial expressions.

Most contestants are national champions sent to Oulu by their local air guitar associations. In the final, they must perform a compulsory one-minute song as well as a song of their own choice. Judges are looking for originality, technique, stage charisma, artistic impression and – obviously – "airness"

Holland's Gyuri "Pelvis Fenderbender" Vergouw finished third in this year's Air Guitar World Championships.[/img]

yeah, airguitar, I once saw it in a pub in Amsterdam. I must say, the guys there were very convincing.

'kaasjager', for those who are not as gifted as vaucluse and myself, it means 'cheesehunter'.... It also made me fall from my chair vaucluse... :D :D :D

Kt, interesting females in that scene, might start gaming as a hobby... :o

I am gonna check some more weird championships...

Eric
