Hi Martina,

You cld check out Magnify House, its in The Arcade (Collyer Quay,3rd Floor), the lady there is quite helpful, does keep gowns in the the budget you mentioned.

Also, there's Rose of Sharon, (Novena Square), don't remember which floor, 2nd or 3rd, good gowns, again similar prices, and up until last week, they were having a sale....hope that helps!!!

Hi there,

Not too sure abt Dorothy Perkins, I usually end up buying my jeans there. Have seen dresses there, but they aren't the type you'd want to wear for a wedding, and prices were about 80 - 100 dollars, more casual type.

I know what you mean, its a pain finding clothes out here, and everytime I go out, I feel huge....hope u get something great to wear for the dinner...

Hi Martina. My personal recommendation would be a kebaya top. Very graceful and feminine no matter what your size. Aljunied Brothers on Arab St will tailor you a kebaya top + camisole for $149. Sarong is extra but you could always match the top with a plain colour straight, long skirt which I am sure you must have in your wardrobe. The lady at Aljunied Bros is a curvy lady herself and friendly. Give it a try!

PS Also look through the other thread on clothing for larger-sized women as it has many other helpful tips and resources.

Hey Martina. Why feel spoilt at having choice? The stick insects have all the choice in the world, why should they be the only ones with that privilege? :)

As for the pants...not sure off hand but you could try looking in factory outlets (Export Fashion and D'factory Outlet are two of the better known chains). The CK chain which is widely seen in heartland estates has got cheap 3/4 pants, REALLY cheap but you have to hunt like mad for something that does not look aunty-ish coz many of their things have got really awful and obiang looking beads and glitter on them. Ditto the Shop-In chain.

Or, you could try going to any of the standard casual clothes chains and root around in their men's section, you might be able to find something there.

Is any one else frustrated by the sizes in Giordano and places like that? And I'm not even talking about the women's sizes here. I went shopping with a man with a 32 inch waist and he had to take an XL size in G2000. Surely not all local men are the size of that skinny Idol guy, who wears 25 inch size jeans!!

Hi Matina,

You may want to buy a nice halter top from Dorothy Perkins, pair it with a pants and throw on a shawl for the wedding dinner, alternatively you can try Magnify House as mentioned in the above posting. They have some tube dresses when I went there last month :)
