Minorities be aware in the clubs

Post by jhkim » Fri, 30 Sep 2005 2:13 pm

Fillipino, Indoneisan(malays) and expats. Be aware when you go to a clubs.

I am still new in SG. I love drinking but I found Singaporean in my dept do not like to drink so much. I have one fillipino colleague who likes to drink. So one night we decided to hit the clubs. I don't like to dance, so I was enjoying my beer and music. My fillipino colleague was having so much fun by him self dancing to a music. I had quiet a few beer my self and closed my eye and leaned on the table. Suddenly I hear loud noise and when I openend my eyes, I saw my fillipino friend getting slapped by few chinese Singaporean.

Right when he was about to get slapped again and stopped the guy and pushed him out. Right as I pushed him away, he gave me that surprised look "Why are you with fillipino?"

Ok....so maybe my friend looked at his girl friend without knowing that she had a company? Did he deserve a slap for that? My friend was so scared that he literally dragged me out of the bar to escape. He kept saying sorry to me....and I was like.."what did you do wrong?"

I met another malay guy who told me he experienced same thing in the club.

Just want to tell you be careful....especially when you go alone or only with few people.

Luckily no one can tell that I am not a Singaporean so did not experience any nasty things when I was hitting on girls in the club.

Sorry...I am trying to stereotype all the Singaporean as minority slapping gangsta wannabes but would like to warn other minorities to be extra careful when they hit the clubs and bars.

"I had quiet a few beer my self and closed my eye and leaned on the table."

What kind of mate are you? Your buddy is getting a smackdown on the dancefloor and you are passed out on the table?

I would say it probably had a lot to do with where you were. I've never had anything like this happen in many years here and many nights out hitting on many Singaporea girls.

T2K, question is, have you scored yet? :P
It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

Try to go with a group? Don't do anything that gets too much attention?
Maybe go to places where known to have many expats.

sorry, sounds like go there but don't have fun huh...I guess most westerners are big so might be ok.....I realized size matters when people choosing a target to bully.

No body can tell that I am not a local so it has been ok for me...but I just want other minorities to be aware so that they won't get slapped by 5 gangsta wannabes who want to show off their machoness infont of their girl friends.

It's not how big you are, it's how quick ( in mind&body ) you are.

Did your Filipino friend only look, or did he do more than that? And where were teh freaking security when you need them?

Getting a slap for only looking, thats pretty unreasonable. I mean, if those "macho" guys dont want their "property" to be looked at, dont freaking bring them to niteclubs!!! Feel sorry for you Mr Filipino, but not all singaporeans (or chinese for that matter) are that psychotic!

He was terrified after that event so we did not talk much about it after that....I don't think he will be going to a clubs or bar anymore....

Knowing him, I don't think he did anything to offend anyone...at the most...maybe he winked at the girl or something...

Oh well....such thing exists in every society.....he just learned it hardway....

ok, lets cut to the chase here. Exactly what club were you at? There is no reason not to be specific so that the rest of us can have a better idea of the situation. I have been at MANY bars over the years and have RARELY heard of such behavior.

Also, for the record, when you drink so much that you have your head on the table - you are asking for trouble no matter WHERE in the world you are.
