I am currently employed and have an EP and dependants passes for my family. If I lost my job it is my understanding that I would have to leave Singapore. My question is.. Is it possible to remain in Singapore (as a family) without an EP. I am lucky enough to have an alternative source of income which is generated outside of Singapore. PR is not an option as I understand my son of 9yrs would be liable for National Service at 16.
Thanks,

Sole Propiertor or Partnership?
Thanks for the reply, ultimately I want to remain in country, if I start a company it will be primarily to qualify me for an EP in the event that my present employment ceases. Is this possible?
1. Does the business have to be a certain size to do this?
2. Can I start a small company but remain EP under the company which I originally came out here on?
Many thanks

No the business doesn't have to be a certain size.Baltika3 wrote:Thanks for the reply, ultimately I want to remain in country, if I start a company it will be primarily to qualify me for an EP in the event that my present employment ceases. Is this possible?

You can register a small company and remain under the Companies EP, But there are some guidelines you need to check.
I presume you must declare an income, and this will be evaluated under your circumstances at the time.
There are no guarantees, but i wonder why you wish to stay here anyway!
I mean Singapore is fine for a holiday or a couple of months, but the climate is not for me. I commute backwards and forwards and have an apartment here, only because of my wife working here.
I think if you have an outside income, you should really ask yourself why here?

1. Business must be profitable. If the turnover is above few millions they may give you PR.Baltika3 wrote:Thanks for the reply, ultimately I want to remain in country, if I start a company it will be primarily to qualify me for an EP in the event that my present employment ceases. Is this possible?

2. You can start the company while you are on other company EP. Once your current EP is cancelled, you can get Entrepass (another sort of EP for the company owners)
Why don't you like to be a PR? It is not compulsory to serve NS for your son. Don't apply for PR for him, apply for yourself and your wife only.
Baltika3 do you like Baltika 9?
